PSLE marking days:
Programme: Crash course revision

What does it cover: We will go through a few of the more
common themes of composition writing.

We will also go through synthesis, grammar, comprehension,
editing, grammar and vocabulary. We will provide notes for
the vocabulary words taught. These notes have the mnemonics
for each word, hence it will be easy for the children to remember
the words. Synthesis notes will also be provided and the children
will be taught how to tackle inference questions. We will also teach
the children how to do comprehension close passages and provide
notes for it as well.

Basically, this is a crash course to make sure the children have
some thorough revision before the SA2.

When: 19 - 21 October (Tuesday to Thursday)

Time: 10 am - 2 pm: with a 15 min break (total 12 hours)

** For our crash course, we are offering it at a discount as we
want to help the children get ready for the SA2 and not to waste the
PSLE marking days at home- some would just take the time to slow
down and relax which is the last thing to do so near the SA2.

Cost: $144

Venue: Yishun centre (Block 414, Yishun Ave 11, #01-1859)

Nov/Dec holiday programme:
We will be having an intensive creative writing programme during
the year-end holidays.

Programme: Love to write!

What does it cover: We will cover all the creative writing
techniques- metaphorical language, building tension, interesting
story beginnings, varied sentence structure, story hooks etc.

We will teach the children how to apply these techniques to a range
of themes. We will also teach them how to start the compositions in
creative ways. On the last day of the programme, we will show the
children how to write a composition based on an imaginary setting.
This is to get them to be creative and to show them how to add a
twist to their writing. This course will help the children to get ready
for the examinations but it will also expose them to creative writing in
its original form-using their imagination to add 'spice' to their stories.

Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants whose prey-trapping mechanism features a deep cavity filled with liquid known as a pitfall trap. It has been widely assumed that the various sorts of pitfall trap evolved from rolled leaves

The Venus Flytrap, is a carnivorous plant that catches and digests animal prey—mostly insects and arachnids. Its trapping structure is formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves and is triggered by tiny hairs on their inner surfaces.

Our English Programme

Creative Writing: We use mnemonic strategies to aid in the building up of vocabulary needed to flesh out the story. We have our own Creative Writing syllabus to help students build tension in a story and write in a narrative style that makes the stories come alive.

Why use mnemonic strategies?
Mnemonic strategies are systematic procedures for enhancing memory. Their particular use is in developing better ways to take in information so that it will be much easier to remember. Research has demonstrated that the way we take in information when we first study facilitates memory better. By employing mnemonic strategies, we find a way to relate new information to information students already have locked in long-term memory. If we can make a firm enough connection, the memory will last a very long time. As such, when the students use these strategies to write, they are able to remember what was taught for a long time as the vocabulary becomes locked in their long-term memory.

Example of student’s work:
"Crackle! The sound of flames could be heard now. Looking behind me, I saw flames, bright red and ferocious licking its way towards us. Terror, intense and raw filled me as I saw the flames eating its way to where we were."

What People Say About Us?
“The curriculum is very rich; it breaks down complicated concepts and makes it simpler. Not only  that, the lesson packages constantly offer ways to deliver creative lesson which is very important because children need multi sensory experiences for them to retain learning”

.

Science programme
We teach science concepts by using hands-on activities and experiments. We relate the concepts to daily living and show students how science is used in their everyday life. By the use of mnemonic maps, we help students to remember concepts.
What People Say About Us?
“I find that Science is easy for me to understand, with the mind mapping, it helps me remember the facts!"
Jeremy Tan
ACS (Junior)

Maths programme

We teach students thinking and heuristic skills for problem solving. We also use a structured approach to help students understand a Mathematical concept well and expose them to a variety of ways in which that concept can be applied to answering different questions.
What People Say About Us?
“My Maths improved after joining a short period of 2 months. The method is very easy for me to understand. With the Star Chart as a motivation tool, it motivates me to learn even more!”
